Japan issues arrest warrants against anti-whaling activists Descrição do Vídeo: In an interesting change of policy, the Japanese police have finally gotten around to putting out arrest warrants for three environmental activists from the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, for their interference in a whale "research" hunt back in February of 2007. It took nearly a year and a half for them to conclude that the actions of the two Americans and a Briton classify as "forcible obstruction of the business." Which, I'm sure in this day and age on the high seas, translates to suspicion in the neighborhood of "piracy," or "terrorism." It seems that this move is just to make a statement that Japan will not allow its whaling association to be bullied in its research. This on the heels of the injunction issued earlier this year which ruled that Japanese whaling vessels were in breach of the Environmental Protection Act by taking fin and mink whales in the Australian whale sanctuary. Tanzania Flamingo population threatened by industrial projects It is one of the world's greatest natural spectacles. More than 500,000 flamingos congregate on the salty shores of Lake Natron in the north of Tanzania every year to breed. This could be about to end. Tanzania's state owned National Development Corporation backed by Tata Chemicals is planning to build a soda ash factory at the lake which would produce 500,000 tones of soda ash, destroying the landscape. Lake Natron is a shallow soda lake abundant in cynobacteria upon which the flamingos feed. Its lunar landscape is the perfect breeding ground for flamingos. Conservationists estimate that 75 per cent of the world's population of lesser flamingos classified as near threatened was hatched on the shores of the lake. These shores are extremely vulnerable to minor ecological changes and building a factory which would alter chemical balance of the lake waters and could also threaten flamingos' survival. The new factory would also bring more vehicles and more humans disturbing the fragile ecological balance. It is essential to bring development to the local population, but then it needs to be done carefully so that our natural resources remain protected. Adult killings in Nairobi's slums Violence is one of the foremost reasons behind adult killings in Nairobi's slums. However, the population is spared the worry of emerging lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, heart ailments, obesity and stress. Gunshot wounds and blunt trauma as a result of 'mob justice' are the most common modes of injury. Reasons being: low levels of education, drug and alcohol abuses, unemployment, poverty, lack of social cohesion and population density. Indifference of such institutions in slum communities has led to the growth of community informal justice measures, which usually take the form of "mob justice", meted out on people suspected of committing crimes even petty ones. Slums are notable for as criminal dens where most police shooting take place. Police reports indicate the slums are retreats for robbers, carjackers and other hardened criminals who commit crimes in the affluent parts of the city. Wrestler Sushil Kumar wins Olympic Bronze medal for India After Abhinav Bindra, the other person who brought the Olympic glory for India is Sushail Kumar. He won the Bronze medal after beating Kazakhstan's wrestler in a play-off in the men's 66 kg freestyle wrestling through repechage round at the Beijing. Earlier, India's freestyle grappler Sushil Kumar who got a bye in the qualification round lost in the first round to Ukraine's Andriy Stadnik. The Ukrainian dominated from the very beginning and the lack of experience on India's part led to a very one sided match. This is surely a welcome achievement for India but nothing more than a drop in the ocean, I'd add surely. So far only one gold and one Bronze is not worth for a country of "One Billion" people and India is yet to show its obsession to win. Operation Dirty Bird Pt 3: The Bad Mayor Descrição do Vídeo: The statistics are clear: over seventy percent of California's prison population are ex-foster children; more than two-thirds of foster children aging out of the system are coming forward with horror stories of severe abuse while in the custody of the state; and it is a known fact that a child is three times more likely to be severely abused or die of abuse while in the care of a non-biologically related person. With all of that said, why would we do anything to bolster adoption and foster care rates? It would be ridiculous, but it's happening here in San Bernardino. Recently, Arnold Schwarzenegger passed a law providing foster children the opportunity to be heard at court proceedings held to determine their fate of placement. This is not enough, in my opinion, to fix our broken system. Many accused parents are complaining they were not afforded the opportunity to present any evidence or call any witnesses to clear their names in juvenile dependency hearings. In fact, there is no trial by jury when an individual is accused of abusing their child at all. It would bring one to ponder what the connection is between these happenings. My investigations into these matters have led me to find that many of these judges, higher-ups in D.C.F.S. and Operation Phoenix (what the public is told is a crime-suppression collaborative between "charities" in San Bernardino, City and County governments) are sitting on the boards of directors to the mental health and adoption agencies that are contracted by the Department of Children and Family Services. For instance, Patrick Morris, San Bernardino's distinguished mayor (and founder of Operation Phoenix), sits on the boards of directors to almost every charity involved in Operation Phoenix, one of which I am referring to would be the Children's Fund, another would be the Community Foundation (it's holding more than fifty million dollars in stocks; yet, the community centers and the rest of San Bernardino have reportedly been "flat lined" by Morris for years). Something ugly is brewing on the faces of the lower class in San Bernardino with respect to Morris' anti-crime campaign. According to residents of the areas that Operation Phoenix is focused on, Operation Phoenix "sweeps" have consisted of raids on the poor parts of town and been nothing but a nuisance to innocent residents. These families may be poor, but they're tax-paying citizens who are not usually with any criminal record. It has put a rift between citizens as young as elementary grade school level children and who are supposed to be San Bernardino's finest: our local police. Residents who are truly in crime-ridden areas cry out in city council meetings, "I called the police about the taggers and I've been threatened with poles, but nobody came!" The mayor seemed annoyed, at best, with the pleas of a local resident. I suggested he get a camera, like mine. It was all the solace I could provide, but at least I tried to help. A city firefighter expressed his irritation with the council's negative attitude toward his department. He told of pencils being thrown down in disgust and general unprofessional attitudes to local needs and respect for his department. The mayor sat and listened with a stone face, mute. This was particularly upsetting to me because I had, only a few minutes earlier in the day, personally helped give medical aid to a seizing man just outside of City Hall with this man. He did not brag or boast in any way about what he'd just done: save the life of a complete stranger, but did say that his department would always be there for the citizens of San Bernardino. As he took the man's blood pressure, helped me turn him to his side to clear the airway and stay to report the whole story to the medics who responded, I saw in his eyes the selflessness of our city's servants. No: he did not brag to the city council about the emergency (and free) medical care he gave to a very ill man right outside the city hall doors. He merely asked for a little respect. Later, as Councilwoman Wendy McCammack demanded answers to the Operation Phoenix scandal, another council member chuckled and made teasing faces about the subject: totally disrespectful to the public's need for answers. During a break, I approached the mayor and asked him to think long and hard about what Operation Phoenix is doing to his city. I told him I'd like an interview with him about his connections to non-profits that are profiting from these raids and other operations of Operation Phoenix. He referred me to his assistant and quickly brushed me off. It is my feeling that he dares not interview with me because he knows I intend to hold him accountable for his actions. Our city's money is not his personal piggy-bank and he is not the only person in San Bernardino who deserves respect. He told a public meeting in Kuruwita that it was Mr. Wickramasinghe who took the initiative to fragment the country joining with the LTTE terrorists. Until today he had not clearly stated whether they are supporting the Government's operations against the LTTE terrorists. He cannot make such a statement as it is he who inked agreements to fragment the country. It is they who laid the foundation to divide the country. They took the initiatives to destroy Sri Lanka's territorial integrity. As such, the Prime Minister added that they cannot talk against the LTTE. The meeting was organized by Minister W.D.J. If i walked along the TianYaoQiao Road aside as u didn't see that weird scene in this video,then u would find there were hundreds of Chinese special KungFu fighting Army men standing like trees straight on the road line along the whole avenue. if u watch this video till the later section,u will see i tried to talk to a police woman in English. however,after a while,to my surprise,i got asked seriously by a Chinese special police spy man in the end of this video. now i think if i talked weird or did stupidly or even did terror affairs,dudes,not even kidding,i would got shoot by some Chinese special Army man from somewhere undefined they in where i cannot see. Whoops!
