Scenic view of the eastern side of the Glen O'Downs
from Hangman's Rock on the western side. In the valley
the N11, the main artery between Dublin and Wexford. In
the mid-1990's the N11 was subject to some controversy
due to road-widening plans proposed by Wicklow County
Council resulting in an almost 3 years lasting stand-off
between the Council and a number of environmentalists and
"Eco-Warriors". In the end the Council was forced to
scale down their widening plans.

Delgany and Downs Hill.A village going back to medieval
times was located in the sloping fields but came to an
end during the famine years. Remnants of houses and roads
are still visible.
One of only two known bronze age hill forts on the east
coast once stood on Downs Hill

The Octagon

The Octagon was part of the Bellevue Estate and has
been used by the La Touche family as hunting lodge and
tea rooms. A spectacular view can be enjoyed from THe
Octagon across the Glen O'Downs and beyond. Sadly only
ruins are left today of the 1750's Bellevue Estate near
Delgany, Co. Wicklow
