between a submarine with the rudder placed ahead of the
propeller (RED submarine) and a submarine with the rudder
placed behind the propeller (GREEN submarine). When we
built a one person, dry, pedal-powered submarine, we
didn't expect that it would lead to finding a design
error in US Navy nuclear powered submarines. We placed
the rudder on the RED sub, ahead of the propeller because
that is where it is on big nukes and it looked good. But
it didn't steer well so we placed the rudder in back of
